HISTORI DINISTR
BEL A'R DDRAIG, WEDI EI THORRI YMAITH ODDI WRTH DDIWEDD DANIEL
(= The tale of Bel and the Dragon and Daniel, removed from
the end of Daniel)
1 A’r brenin Astyages a roddwyd at ei dadau, a Cyrus o Persia a gymerodd ei
frenhiniaeth ef.
1 And
king Astyages was gathered to his fathers, and Cyrus of Persia received his
kingdom.
2 A Daniel oedd yn byw gyda'r brenin, ac yn fwy urddasol na'i holl
gyfeillion.
2 And
Daniel conversed with the king, and was honoured above all his friends.
3 Ac yr ydoedd eilun gan y Babiloniaid, a elwid Bel, ar yr hwn yr oeddid yn
treulio beunydd ddeuddeng mesur mawr o beilliaid, a deugain o ddefaid, a chwe
llestr o win.
3 Now
the Babylons had an idol, called Bel, and there were spent upon him every day
twelve great measures of fine flour, and forty sheep, and six vessels of wine.
4 A'r brenin a'i haddolai ef, a beunydd yr ai i ymgrymu iddo: eithr
Daniel a addolai ei Dduw ei hun. A'r brenin a ddywedodd wrtho, Paham nad wyt
ti'n addoli Bel?
4 And the king worshipped it and
went daily to adore it: but Daniel worshipped his own God. And the king said
unto him, Why dost not thou worship Bel?
5 Ac efe a atebodd ac a ddywedodd, Am nad anrhydeddaf fi eilunod
gwneuthuredig â dwylo, ond y Duw byw, yr hwn a wnaeth y nef a'r ddaear, ac y
sydd iddo feddiant ar bob cnawd.
5 Who answered and said, Because
I may not worship idols made with hands, but the living God, who hath created
the heaven and the earth, and hath sovereignty over all flesh.
6 A'r brenin a ddywedodd wrtho, Onid wyt ti yn tybied mai Duw byw yw
Bel? oni weli di faint y mae efe yn ei fwyta ac yn ei yfed beunydd?
6 Then said the king unto him,
Thinkest thou not that Bel is a living God? seest thou not how much he eateth
and drinketh every day?
7 A Daniel a ddywedodd dan chwerthin, Na thwyller di, O frenin: hwn oddi
mewn sy glai, ac oddi allan yn bres; ni fwytaodd ac nid yfodd erioed.
7 Then Daniel smiled, and said, O
king, be not deceived: for this is but clay within, and brass without, and did
never eat or drink any thing.
8 Yna'r brenin yn ddicllon a alwodd ei offeiriaid, ac a ddywedodd
wrthynt, Oni ddywedwch i mi pwy sydd yn bwyta'r draul hon, meirw fyddwch:
8 So the king was wroth, and
called for his priests, and said unto them, If ye tell me not who this is that
devoureth these expences, ye shall die.
9 Eithr os gellwch chwi ddangos i mi fod Bel yn bwyta'r pethau hyn, marw
a gaiff Daniel, am iddo ddywedyd cabledd yn erbyn Bel. A Daniel a ddywedodd
wrth y brenin, Fel y dywedaist, bydded.
9 But if ye can certify me that
Bel devoureth them, then Daniel shall die: for he hath spoken blasphemy against
Bel. And Daniel said unto the king, Let it be according to thy word.
10 Offeiriaid Bel oeddynt ddeg a thrigain, heblaw eu gwragedd a'u plant.
A'r brenin a aeth gyda Daniel i deml Bel.
10 Now the priests of Bel were
threescore and ten, beside their wives and children. And the king went with
Daniel into the temple of Bel.
11 A'r offeiriaid hefyd a ddywedasant, Wele, ni a awn allan: dod di, O
frenin, y bwydydd yn eu lle, a gosod y gwin, wedi i ti ei gymysgu, a chae'r
drws, a selia â'th fodrwy dy hun.
11 So Bel's priests said, Lo, we
go out: but thou, O king, set on the meat, and make ready the wine, and shut
the door fast and seal it with thine own signet;
12 A'r bore, pan ddelych, oni bydd Bel wedi bwyta'r cwbl, lladder ni; os
amgen, Daniel, yr hwn a ddywedodd gelwydd yn ein herbyn ni.
12 And to morrow when thou comest
in, if thou findest not that Bel hath eaten up all, we will suffer death: or
else Daniel, that speaketh falsely against us.
13 A diofal oeddynt: oherwydd dan y bwrdd y gwnaethent ffordd, i'r hon
yr aent i mewn bob amser, ac y llwyr fwytaent y pethau hynny.
13 And they little regarded it:
for under the table they had made a privy entrance, whereby they entered in
continually, and consumed those things.
14 Yna wedi iddynt fyned allan, ac i'r brenin osod y bwydydd gerbron
Bel, y gorchmynnodd Daniel i'w weision ddwyn lludw, yr hwn a daenasant dros
gwbl o'r deml yng ngŵydd y brenin ei
hun: ac wedi eu myned allan, hwy a gaeasant y porth, ac a'i seliasant â
modrwy'r brenin, ac a aethant ymaith.
14 So when they were gone forth,
the king set meats before Bel. Now Daniel had commanded his servants to bring
ashes, and those they strewed throughout all the temple in the presence of the
king alone: then went they out, and shut the door, and sealed it with the
king's signet, and so departed.
15 A'r offeiriaid a aethant i mewn, gefn y nos, yn ôl eu harfer, a'u
gwragedd a'u plant, ac a fwytasant ac a yfasant y cwbl.
15 Now in the night came the
priests with their wives and children, as they were wont to do, and did eat and
drinck up all.
16 A'r bore y brenin a gododd yn fore iawn, a Daniel gydag ef.
16 In the morning betime the king
arose, and Daniel with him.
17 A'r brenin a ddywedodd, A ydyw y seliau yn gyfain, Daniel? Ac yntau a
atebodd, Y maent yn gyfain, O frenin.
17 And
the king said, Daniel, are the seals whole? And he said, Yea, O king, they be
whole.
18 A chyn gyflymed ag yr agorasid y drws, y brenin a edrychodd tua'r
bwrdd, ac a lefodd yn uchel, Mawr wyt ti, O Bel, ac nid oes dim twyll gyda thi.
18 And as soon as he had opened
the dour, the king looked upon the table, and cried with a loud voice, Great
art thou, O Bel, and with thee is no deceit at all.
19 Yna Daniel a chwarddodd, ac a ddaliodd y brenin rhag myned i mewn, ac
a ddywedodd, Gwêl y llawr, ac edrych ôl traed pwy yw y rhain.
19 Then laughed Daniel, and held
the king that he should not go in, and said, Behold now the pavement, and mark
well whose footsteps are these.
20 A'r brenin a ddywedodd, Mi a welaf ôl traed gwŷr, a gwragedd, a
phlant: ac yna y digiodd y brenin,
20 And the king said, I see the
footsteps of men, women, and children. And then the king was angry,
21 Ac a ddaliodd yr offeiriaid, a'u gwragedd, a'u plant, y rhai a
ddangosasant iddo y drysau dirgel, i'r rhai yr oeddynt yn myned i mewn i fwyta'r
pethau oedd ar y bwrdd.
21 And took the priests with their
wives and children, who shewed him the privy doors, where they came in, and
consumed such things as were upon the table.
22 A'r brenin a'u lladdodd hwynt, ac a roes Bel ar law Daniel, yr hwn
a'i dinistriodd ef a'i deml.
22 Therefore the king slew them,
and delivered Bel into Daniel's power, who destroyed him and his temple.
23 Yr oedd hefyd ddraig fawr yno; a'r Babiloniaid a'i haddolent hi.
23 And in that same place there
was a great dragon, which they of Babylon worshipped.
24 A'r brenin a ddywedodd wrth Daniel, A ddywedi di mai efydd yw hon?
Wele hi yn fyw, ac yn bwyta, ac yn yfed: ni elli di ddywedyd nad yw hon Dduw
byw: am hynny addola hi.
24 And the king said unto Daniel,
Wilt thou also say that this is of brass? lo, he liveth, he eateth and
drinketh; thou canst not say that he is no living god: therefore worship him.
25 A dywedodd Daniel, Myfi a addolaf yr Arglwydd fy Nuw: canys efe yw y
Duw byw.
25 Then said Daniel unto the king,
I will worship the Lord my God: for he is the living God.
26 Eithr tydi, O frenin, dod i mi gennad, a mi a laddaf y ddraig hon,
heb na chleddyf na ffon. A'r brenin a ddywedodd, Yr ydwyf yn rhoddi i ti
gennad.
26 But give me leave, O king, and
I shall slay this dragon without sword or staff. The king said, I give thee
leave.
27 Yna y cymerth Daniel byg, a gwêr, a blew, ac a'u berwodd ynghyd, ac a
wnaeth dameidiau ohonynt, ac a'u rhoes yn safn y ddraig; a'r ddraig a dorrodd ar
ei thraws. Ac efe a ddywedodd, Wele'r pethau yr ydych chwi yn eu haddoli!
27 Then Daniel took pitch, and
fat, and hair, and did seethe them together, and made lumps thereof: this he
put in the dragon's mouth, and so the dragon burst in sunder : and Daniel said,
Lo, these are the gods ye worship.
28 Ac fe ddigwyddodd i'r Babiloniaid, pan glywsant hynny, ddirfawr
lidio, a throi yn erbyn y brenin, gan ddywedyd, Y brenin a aeth yn Iddew; Bel a
ddistrywiodd efe, a'r Ddraig a laddodd, ac a roes yr offeiriaid i farwolaeth.
28 When they of Babylon heard
that, they took great indignation, and conspired against the king, saying, The
king is become a Jew, and he hath destroyed Bel, he hath slain the dragon, and
put the priests to death.
29 Ac wedi eu dyfod at y brenin, y dywedasant, Dod i ni Daniel; onis
rhoi, ni a'th ddifethwn di a'th dŷ.
29 So they came to the king, and
said, Deliver us Daniel, or else we will destroy thee and thine house.
30 Pan welodd y brenin eu bod hwy yn daer iawn arno, yna y gorfu iddo,
o'i anfodd, roi Daniel iddynt.
30 Now when the king saw that they
pressed him sore, being constrained, he delivered Daniel unto them:
31 A hwythau a'i bwriasant ef i ffau y llewod, lle y bu efe chwe
diwrnod.
31 Who cast him into the lions'
den: where he was six days.
32 Ac yn y ffau yr oedd saith o lewod, i'r rhai y rhoid beunydd ddau
gorff, a dwy ddafad, y rhai y pryd hynny ni roesid iddynt, fel y gallent lyncu
Daniel.
32 And in the den there were seven
lions, and they had given them every day two carcases, and two sheep: which
then were not given to them, to the intent they might devour Daniel.
33 A Habacuc y proffwyd oedd yn Jwdea; ac efe a ferwasai sew, ac a
friwasai fara mewn cawg, ac oedd yn myned i'w ddwyn i'r maes i fedelwyr.
33 Now there was in Jewry a
prophet, called Habbacuc, who had made pottage, and had broken bread in a bowl,
and was going into the field, for to bring it to the reapers.
34 Ac angel yr Arglwydd a ddywed odd wrth Habacuc, Dwg y cinio sy gennyt
hyd yn Babilon, i Daniel, yr hwn sydd yn ffau y llewod.
34 But the angel of the Lord said
unto Habbacuc, Go, carry the dinner that thou hast into Babylon unto Daniel,
who is in the lions' den.
35 A Habacuc a ddywedodd, Arglwydd, ni welais i Babilon erioed; ac ni wn
i pa le y mae'r ffau.
35 And Habbacuc said, Lord, I
never saw Babylon; neither do I know where the den is.
36 Yna angel yr Arglwydd a'i cymerth ef erbyn ei gorun; ac wedi iddo ei
ddwyn erbyn gwallt ei ben, a'i dodes ef yn Babilon, oddi ar y ffau, trwy nerth
ei ysbryd ef.
36 Then the angel of the Lord took
him by the crown, and bare him by the hair of his head, and through the
vehemency of his spirit set him in Babylon over the den.
37 A Habacuc a lefodd, gan ddywedyd, Daniel, Daniel, cymer y cinio a
anfonodd Duw i ti.
37 And Habbacuc cried, saying, O
Daniel, Daniel, take the dinner which God hath sent thee.
38 Yna y dywedodd Daniel, Ti a feddyliaist amdanaf fi, O Dduw, ac ni
adewaist mewn gwall y rhai a'th geisiant ac a'th garant.
38 And Daniel said, Thou hast
remembered me, O God: neither hast thou forsaken them that seek thee and love
thee.
39 Felly Daniel a gyfododd i fyny, ac a fwytaodd. Ac angel yr Arglwydd a
ddodes Habacuc yn ebrwydd yn ei le ei hun.
39 So Daniel arose, and did eat:
and the angel of the Lord set Habbacuc in his own place again immediately.
40 A'r brenin a aeth y seithfed dydd i alaru am Daniel; a phan ddaeth at
y ffau, efe a edrychodd i mewn, ac wele, yr oedd Daniel yn eistedd.
40 Upon the seventh day the king
went to bewail Daniel: and when he came to the den, he looked in, and behold,
Daniel was sitting.
41 Yna y llefodd y brenin â llef uchel, ac a ddywedodd, Mawr wyt ti, O
Arglwydd Dduw Daniel; ac nid oes arall ond tydi.
41 Then cried the king with a loud
voice, saying, Great art Lord God of Daniel, and there is none other beside
thee.
42 Ac efe a'i tynnodd ef allan o'r ffau, ac a fwriodd y rhai oedd achos
o'i ddifetha ef i'r ffau: a hwy a lyncwyd yn y fan o flaen ei lygaid ef.
42 And
he drew him out, and cast those that were the cause of his destruction into the
den: and they were devoured in a moment before his face. .
