They were written in what was the majority dialect of Wales at the beginning of the century (Gwenhwyseg / South-eastern Welsh), nowadays all but gone after the south-easterners abandoned their forefathers' language en masse in the twenties and thirties of the last century, and failed to pass it on to their children.
