Norsk
(CYMRAEG) Norw’eg
(CATALĄ) noruec
(ENGLISH) Norwegian. The language has its origins in Common Scandinavian
(600-1050). This gave rise to Old Norwegian, but the
development of the language was affected by the union with Sweden
from 1319, the black plague around 1350, and ultimately
the union with Denmark for four centuries (· ·) (1380-1814),
resulting in a Danish-Norwegian hybrid. The modern
language has two official forms - the more Danish
Bokmål, and Nynorsk, a nineteenth-century
variant based on the rural dialects of the west, which
had escaped much of the Danish influence.
