make fun of the people of Penllyn and the people of Dolgellau in the same way:}

{Dowcer is literally 'diver, bird which
dives', from dialect English 'dowker', from 'ducker', from 'to duck'. 'Dowcer'
was applied to the razorbill, and also to the cormorant (bilidowcer - 'Billy
the diver'). As a nickname it meant people from places inland who came for a
day at the seaside.

which has a poor, hungry soil, is

{In standard Welsh,"Goetre dlawd, heb na
bara na blawd" = poor Goetre, with neither bread nor flour. In the
south-east, "clawd" is used instead of "tlawd".}
