A list of short biographies from "The History of the Welsh in Minnesota,
Foreston and Lime Springs, Ia. Gathered by the Old Settlers". Editors:
Rev. Thomas E. Hughes, Rev. David Edwards, Hugh G. Roberts, Thomas Hughes.
Published in 1895.
At the end of the book is a photo of The Cambrian Glee Club
(Glee Club - in the US, a choir that sings short pieces. From ‘glee’ in
the sense of voal music in which each voice sings a separate melody; this was
the sense from the 1600s onwards. In earlier English it had a wider meaning of
‘musical entertainment’
Another meaning of glee in Old English was ‘play’ or ‘amusement’, from
which the sense of ‘joy’ developed.
