MARWOLAETHAU (deaths)

Hirwaun. — Ar y 26ain o fis Medi diweddaf (last 26th of September [1839]), cyfarfu un Morgan Evans a’i ddiwedd (one Morgan Evans met with his death / met his death) yn y gwaith glô (in the coal mine) : cynnaliwyd celainholiad ar y corph (an inquest was held on the body) yn y Cardiff Arms (in the Cardiff Arms) o flaen Wm. Davies, Ysw., (before William Davies, Esq.,) a dychwelwyd y rheithfarn (and the verdict was returned) o farwolaeth ddamweiniol (of accidental death).

Pont-ar-dulás (Pontarddulais).— Cadwyd celain-holiad (an inquest was held) yn ddiweddar (lately) yn Pont-ar-dulás (in Pontarddulais), ar gorph John Rees, tyddynwr (on the body of John Rees, a smallholder), yr hwn oedd yn gweithio ar y gledrffordd (who was working on the railway) o Gwm-amman i long-borth Llangenech (from Cwmaman to the harbour of Llangennech) yr hwn a laddwyd yn ddamweiniol gan agerbeiriant (who was killed accidentally by a steam engine).

Pont-y-fón (Y Bont-faen / Cowbridge) — Yn ddiweddar (lately) fel yr oedd Jenkin Reece , o Tythegstone yn dychwelyd (as Jenkin Reece, o Llandudwg / Tythegston, was returning) yn feddw o Bont-y-fón, (drunk from Y Bont-faen / Cowbridge) syrthiodd ddwywaith oddiar gefn ei geffyl (he fell twice from his horse), y tro diweddaf yn ymyl Merthyr mawr (the last time near Merthyr-mawr), yr hyn a achosodd ei angeu (which caused his death).

Hir-hoedledd teuluaidd (family longevity). — Mewn gwledd Nadolig (in a Christmas feast / Christmas dinner) erllynedd (last year) yn Llanfihangel, Abergwesain, sir Frecheiniog (in Llanfihangel, Abergwesyn, Sir Frycheiniog / Breconshire), ymgyfarfu pedwar cefnder (four cousins met), oedran unedig pa rai (the combined age of which ones / of whom) oedd 340 o flynyddoedd (was 340 years).

Cymry enwogion (Famous Welshmen). — Gwelsom yn un o’r newyddiadaron diweddar (we saw in one of the recent newspapers), fod y Parch. Robert Williams, M. A., (that the Reverend Robert Williams, M. A.), Curad Parháol Llangadwaladr, swydd Ddinbych (the Permanent Curate of Llangadwaladr, Sir Ddinbych / Denbighshire), wedi cyhoeddi Geiriadur Buchdraethodawl (has published a biographical dictionary), yn Saesonaeg (in English), o Gymry Enwogion (of Famous Welshmen), o’r oesoedd boreuol hyd yr amser presennol (from the early ages to the present time / from early times to the present).

Dolgellau. - Ar y 29ain o Fedi (on the 29th of September [1839]), cafwyd corph plentyn yn y Llyn-bach (a child’s body was found in the Llyn Bach = little lake), yn ymyl y ffordd (next to the road) sydd yn arwain o Dolgellau i Fachynlleth (which leads from Dolgellau to Machynlleth), tua chwe’ milldir (about six miles) o’r lle blaenaf (from the former place). Wedi cynnal celainholiad (after holding an inquest), dychwelwyd rheithfarn o Lofruddiaeth Gwirfoddol (a verdict of Wilful Murder was returned), yn erbyn rhyw berson neu bersonau anhysbys (against a certain person or persons unknown / against a person or persons unknown). Meddylir gyflawni y llofruddiaeth gan ryw grwydriaid (it is thought the committing of the crime by certain vagrants / it is thought the crime was committed by vagrants), llawer o ba rai (many of which ones / many of whom) sydd yn teithio Cymru (are travelling Wales / are travelling around in Wales) y dyddiau hyn (these days).

Ffestiniog. — Ar y 29ain o Fedi (on the 29th of September [1839]), sef Gwyl Mihangel a’r Holl Angylion (namely the feastday of Saint Michael and All the Angels / and All Angels) — da (well, good / [it is] good [to report], cyssegrwyd eglwys newydd Dewi Sant (the new church of Saint David’s was consecrated), gan Arg. Esgob yr Esgobaeth (by the Lord Bishop of the diocese), yr hon a adeiladwyd ac a gynysgaeddwyd (which was bulit and endowed) gan Mrs. Oakeley (gan Mrs. Oakeley), o Blás Tan-y-bwlch (of Plas Tan-y-bwlch / of Tan-y-bwlch mansion), yn nghymydogaeth y Cloddfeydd Llechi (in the vicinity of the slate quarries), yn mhlwyf Ffestiniog, Meirionydd (in the parish of Ffestiniog, Meirionydd / Sir Feirionydd / Merionethshire).

Trallwm (Y Trallwng / Welshpool) — Tán Dinystriol (a destructive fire).— Hydref y 3ydd (on October 3rd [1839]), tua 10 o’r gloch (towards 10 o’ clock), fel yr oedd Mr. Stanley, Trelystan, ger y Trallwm (as Mr. Stanley, of Trelystan, Y Trallwng / Welshpool), a’i deulu yn myned i’r gwely (and his family were going to bed), eu sylw a dynwyd (their attention was drawn) at golofn o oleuni (to a column of light). Wedi edrych allan (after looking outside) canfuent yr adeilad ar dân (they found the building on fire). Anfonwyd i’r Trallwm yn ddioed (it was sent / word was sent to Y Trallwng / Welshpool immediately) i ymofyn y peiriant (to ask for the engine / the fire engine in Y Trallwng was sent for immediately), ond, er pob ymdrech (but in spite of every effort / in spite of all efforts), llosgwyd yr holl adeiladau (all the buildings were burnt) — yr holl ŷd (all the corn) — ac yn nghylch dwy ran o dair o’r gwair (and about two parts of three of the hay / two thirds of the hay) — ac un ceffyl (and one horse). Mae yn debygol i’r tân gael ei osod yn fwriadol (it is likely that the fire was set intentionally / that the fire was started deliberately), yn yr amrywiol adeiladau a’r ŷdlan (in the various buildings and the rickyard / cornyard).

Aberystwyth. — Yn ddiweddar cadwyd celainholiad ar gorph John Davies (recently an inquest was held on the body of John Davies), ysgolfeistr o Lanychaiarn (a schoolmaster of Llanychaearn), 64 mlwydd oed (64 years old). Ymddengys iddo, wrth rodio yn y tywyllwch, syrthio (it seems that, while riding in the dark, he fell) dros ddibyn ar gyfer y Castle House, (over a cliff opposite Castle House), a dryllio ei ben-glog (and smashing his skull / and smashed his skull) nes oedd ei ymenydd allan (until his brain was out / and his brains spilled out), a marw yn ddioed (and dying at once / and he died immediately).

Angeu disyfyd (sudden death). — Yn ddiweddar (recently, lately) fel yr oedd Mr. Williams, meistr mwnwyr, yn marchogaeth (as Mr. Williams, a master collier, was riding) o Sirhowy i Benycae (from Sirhywi to Pen-y-cae / Glynebwy / Ebbw Vale), pan yn ymyl Waun-y-pound (when near Waun-y-pownd) syrthiodd oddiar gefn ei geffyl (he fell of the back of his horse / he fell off his horse) — mewn llewyg o’r parlys mud (in a faint of the silent paralysis / of apoplexy / having suffered a stroke), a bu farw yn mhen dau ddiwmod (and he died within two days).

Gwrecsam (Wrecsam). — Dygwyddodd amgylchiad galarus ac angeuawl yn ddiweddar (A fatal and mournful circumstance happened recently) yn Fardon (Rhedynfre / Farndon), ger Gwrecsam (near Wrexham). Ymddengys fod pump oedd ger tŷ Mr. Miller yn cael ei adgyweirio (it appears that a pump that was near Mr. Miller’s house was being repaired), tynesid y coed i lawr (the wood was pulled down), trwy yr hyn yn anffodiog (through which / as a result of which unfortunately) gadawsid y pydew yn agored (the well was left open). Elai Mrs. Miller allan yn y nos (Mrs. Miller went out in the night), ond gan na ddychwelodd mewn amser rhesymol (but since she didn’t return in a reasonable time) aeth ei chyfeillion i chwilio am dani (her friends went out to look for her) — a chafwyd hi yn farw (and found her dead) yn ngwaelod y pydew (at the bottom of the well).

Abertawy (Abertawe / Swansea). Ar ddydd Sul y 19eg o Hydref (on Sunday 19 October [1839]), cafwyd corph un Evan Thomas (the body of one Evan Thomas was found), adnabyddus wrth yr enw ‘Evan y Farteg,’ (known by hte name of Evan y Farteg / Evan from Y Farteg) yn ddifywyd (lifeless) mewn afonig fechan (in a small stram), o fewn 800 o latheni i Weithfa Haiarn Ynyscedwin (within 800 yards of Ynysgedwyn Iron Works), ar y ffordd i Abertawy (on the road to Abertae / Swansea).
