Eirinwg - Article in Welsh by A. Morris (in the magazine
Cymru, 1915) about the Welsh cantrevs in Herefordshire
Eirinwg - erth˙gl gan
A. Morris (Cymru, 1915)
Translation: We
need to go back to the time of Offa, king of the Marches, yn the last years of
the wighth century, for the rift that took place to split the Welsh people of
Eiriwg from their compatriots in Wales. When Offa built his boundary dyke along
the border, according to the Saxon Chronicle, Eirineg (or Archenfield), was
joined to Mercia, and rather than drive the Welsh over the Dyke they were
allowed to remain in the country of their forefathers which was their
birthright.
Rhaid myned yn ôl i amser Offa, brenin y Mers, ym mlynyddau olaf yr w˙thfed
ganrif, am yr ymrw˙giad a gymerodd le i wahanu Cymr˙ Eirinwg oddiwrth eu
c˙d-genedl yng Nghymru. Pan adeiladodd Offa ei glawdd terf˙n drw˙ y goror yn ol
y Saxon Chronicle, fe unw˙d Eirinwg neu Archfield â Mersia, ac yn hytrach na
gyrru Cymr˙ y rhandir dros y Clawdd fe ganiataw˙d idd˙nt aros yn nhreftadaeth
ei hynafiaid

Article in Welsh by Emr˙s ap Iwan from 1895 in which he calls for a Welsh
capital in the centre of Wales and for the border of Wales and England to
follow the course of the river Hafren / Severn
Prif ddinas i Gymru - erth˙gl gan
Emr˙s ap Iwan a gyhoeddw˙d yn y Geninen 1895
Translation: The
capital city should be near the borders of the South and the North, that is, within,
the province formerly called Pow˙s - or in other words, the country between the
river Mawddach and the river Ystw˙th, and from (the land) between these
(rivers) to the east, including Croesoswallt, Pengwern (Shrewsbury), and
Llw˙dlo (Ludlow) towns which once belonged to the province of Pow˙s and should
belong to it again
Fe ddyle'r brif ddinas fod yn agos i gyffinia De a Gogledd, sef o fewn y
dala˙th a elwid g˙nt yn Bow˙s,- dyweder, y wlad rhwng yr afon Mawddach a'r afon
Ystw˙th, ac oddi rhyngdd˙n hw˙ tua'r dw˙rain, gan gynnw˙s Cro˙soswallt,
Pengwern (Shrewsbury), a Llw˙dlo (Ludlow), trefi o˙dd yn perth˙n unwaith i
dala˙th Pow˙s, ac a ddylen fod yn perth˙n iddi etto.
Translation:
Indeed, just as the Welsh of Llanddw˙n have reoccupied Llansantffráid ym
Mechain and have turned the old English chapel into a Welsh chapel, so the
Welsh everywhere, through helping each other to buy houses and lands, or
through other means, should try to reoccupy the whole borderland as far as the
Hafren (Severn) and the Weaver, so that the Wales of the future is the same
size as Wales in former times.
Yn wir, fel y mae Cymr˙ Llanddw˙n wedi ail-feddiannu
Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain a throi yr hen gappel Seisnig yn gappel Cymreig, fell˙
y dyle Cymr˙ pob mann, trw˙ gynnorthw˙o'u gil˙dd i brynnu tai a thirodd, ne
trw˙ r˙w foddion er˙ll, geisio ail-feddiannu yr holl oror h˙d at yr Hafren a
Weaver, fel ag i wne˙d Cymru F˙dd yn gyfartal eu maint â Chymru Fu,
