1:1 A bydd, yn y
dyddiau yr oedd y brawdwyr yn barnu, fod newyn yn y wlad: a gŵr o Bethlehem
Jwda a aeth i ymdeithio yng ngwlad Moab, efe a’i wraig, a’i ddau fab.
1:1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled,
that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of
1:2 Ac enw y gŵr oedd Elimelech, ac enw ei wraig
Naomi, ac enw ei ddau fab Mahlon a Chilion, Effreteaid o Bethlehem Jwda. A hwy
a ddaethant i wlad
1:2 And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of
his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of
1:3 Ac Elimelech gŵr Naomi a fu farw; a hithau a’i dau fab a
adawyd.
1:3 And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left,
and her two sons.
1:4 A hwy a gymerasant iddynt
wragedd o’r Moabesau;; enw y naill oedd Orpa, ac enw y llall, Ruth. A
thrigasant yno ynghylch deng mlynedd.
1:4 And they took them wives of the women of
1:5. A Mahlon a Chilion a
fuant feirw hefyd ill dau; a’r wraig a adawyd yn amddifad o’i dau fab, ac o’i
gŵr.
1:5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the
woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
1:6 A hi a gyfododd, a’i
merched yng nghyfraith, i ddychwelyd o wlad
1:6 Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might
return from the country of
1:7 A hi a aeth o’r lle yr
oedd hi ynddo, a’i dwy waudd gyd hi: a hwy a aethant i ffordd i ddychwelyd i
wlad Jwda.
1:7 Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was,
and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto
the
1:8 A
Naomi a ddywedodd wrth ei dwy waudd, Ewch, dychwelwch bob un i dŷ ei mam:
gwneled yr ARGLWYDD drugaredd à chwi, fel y gwnaethoch chwi â’r meirw, ac a
minnau.
1:8 And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return
each to her mother’s house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt
with the dead, and with me.
1:9 Yr ARGLWYDD a ganiatao i chwi gael
gorffwystra bob un yn nhŷ ei gŵr. Yna y cusanodd hi hwynt: a hwy a
ddyrchafasant eu llef, ac a wylasant.
1:9 The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in
the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice,
and wept.
1:16 A Ruth a ddywedodd, Nac erfyn arnaf fi ymado â
thi, i gilio oddi ar dy ôl di: canys pa Ie bynnag yr elych di, yr af finnau; ac
ym mha Ie bynnag y lletyech di, y lletyaf finnau: dy bobl di fydd fy mhobl i,
a’th DDUW di fy Nuw innau:
1:16 And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to
return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where
thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
1:17 Lle y byddych di marw, y byddaf
finnau farw, ac yno y’m cleddir; fel hyn y gwnelo yr ARGLWYDD i mi, ac fel hyn
y chwanego, os dim ond angau a wna ysgariaeth rhyngof fi a thithau.
PENNOD 2
2:1 Ac i ŵr Naomi yr
ydoedd càr, o ŵr cadarn nerthol, o dylwyth Elimelech, a’enw Boas.
2:1
And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family
of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
2:2 A Ruth y Foabes a ddywedodd wrth
Naomi, Gad i mi fyned yn awr i’r maes, a lloffa
tywysennau ar ôl yr hwn y caffwyf ffafr yn ei olwg. Hithau a ddywedodd wrthi,
Dos, fy merch.
2:2 And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to
the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace.
And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
2:3 A hi a aeth, ac a ddaeth, ac a
loffodd
yn y maes ar ôl y medelwyr: a digwyddodd wrth ddamwain fod y rhan honno o’r
maes yn eiddo Boas, yr hwn oedd o dylwyth Elimelech.
2:3 And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after
the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto
Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
2:4 Ac wele. Boas a ddaeth o
2:4 And, behold, Boaz came from
2:5 Yna y dywedodd Boas wrth ei was yr
hwn oedd yn sefyll yn ymyl y medelwyr, Pwy biau y llances hon?
2:5 Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the
reapers, Whose damsel is this?
2:6 A’r gwas yr hwn oedd yn sefyll wrth
y medelwyr a atebodd, ac a ddywedodd, Y llances o Moab ydyw hi, yr hon a
ddychwelodd gyda Naomi o wlad Moab:
2:6 And the servant that was set over the reapers answered
and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the
country of Moab:
2:7 A hi a ddywedodd, Atolwg yr ydwyf
gael lloffa, a chasglu ymysg yr ysgubau ar ôl y medelwyr: a hi a ddaeth, ac a
arhosodd er y bore hyd yr awr hon, oddieithr aros ohoni hi ychydig yn tŷ.
2:7 And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after
the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the
morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
2:8 Yna y dywedodd Boas wrth
Ruth, Oni chlywi di, fy merch? Na ddos i loffa i faes arall, ac na cherdda oddi
yma, eithr aros yma gyda’m llancesau i.
2:8 Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter?
Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by
my maidens:
2:9 Bydded dy lygaid ar y maes y
byddont hwy yn ei fedi, a dos ar eu hôl hwynt: oni orchmynnais i’r llanciau, na
chyffyrddent a thi? A phan sychedych, dos at y llestri, ac yf o’r hwn a
ollyngodd y llanciau.
2:9 Let thine eyes
be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged
the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go
unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
2:10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the
ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou
shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
2:11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been
showed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of
thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land
of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
2:13 Yna hi a ddywedodd, Caffwyf
ffafr yn dy olwg di, fy arglwydd; gan i
ti fy nghysuro i, a chan i ti lefaru wrth fodd calon dy wasanaethferch, er nad
ydwyf fel un o’th lawforynion di.
2:14 And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither,
and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the
reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed,
and left.
2:15 A hi a gyfododd i loffa: a gorchmynnodd
Boas i’w weision, gan ddywedyd, Lloffed hefyd ymysg yr ysgubau, ac na feiwch
arni:
2:15 And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his
young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
2:16 A chan ollwng gollyngwch hefyd iddi beth o’r
ysgubau; a gadewch hwynt, fel y lloffo hi hwynt; ac na cheryddwch hi.
PENNOD 3
3:1 Yna Naomi ei chwegr a ddywedodd wrthi, Fy
merch, oni cheisiaf fi orffwystra i ti, fel y byddo da i ti?
3:1 Then Naomi her mother in law
said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well
with thee?
3:2 Ac yn awr onid yw Boas o’n cyfathrach ni, yr
hwn y buost ti gyda’i lancesi? Wele efe yn nithio haidd y nos hon yn y llawr dyrnu.
3:2 And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens
thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
3:3
Ymolch gan hynny, ac ymira, a gosod dy ddillad amdanat, a dos i waered i’r
llawr dyrnu: na fydd gydnabyddus i’r gŵr, nes darfod iddo fwyta ac yfed.
3:3 Wash thy self therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment
upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the
man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
3:4
A phan orweddo efe, yna dal ar y fan y gorweddo efe ynddi; a dos, a dinoetha ei
draed ef, a gorwedd; ac efe a fynega i ti yr hyn a wnelych.
3:4 And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt
mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet,
and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
3:5 A hi a ddywedodd wrthi, Gwnaf yr hyn oll a erchaist i mi.
3:5 And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I
will do.
3:6 A hi a aeth i waered i’r llawr
dyrnu, ac a wnaeth yn ôl yr hyn oll a
orchmynasai ei chwegr iddi.
3:6 And she went down unto the floor, and did according to
all that her mother in law bade her.
3:7 Ac wedi i Boas fwyta ac yfed, fel y llawenhaodd ei galon, efe a aeth i
gysgu i gwr yr ysgafn. Hithau a ddaeth yn ddistaw, ac a ddinoethodd ei draed,
ac a orweddodd.
3:7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was
merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly,
and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
3:8 Ac
yng nghanol y nos y gŵr a ofnodd, ac a ymdrodd: ac wele wraig yn gorwedd
wrth ei draed ef.
3:8 And it came to pass at
3:9 Ac efe a ddywedodd, Pwy ydwyt ti? A hi a ddywedodd, Myfi yw Ruth dy
lawforwyn: lleda gan hynny dy adain dros dy lawforwyn, canys fy nghyfathrachwr
i ydwyt ti.
3:9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth
thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a
near kinsman.
3:10 Ac efe a ddywedodd, Bendigedig
fyddych, fy merch, gan yr ARGLWYDD;
dangosaist fwy o garedigrwydd yn y diwedd, nag yn y dechrau; gan nad, aethost
ar ôl gwŷr ieuainc, na thlawd na chyfoethog.
3:10 And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter:
for thou hast showed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning,
inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
3:11 Ac yn awr, fy merch, nac ofna; yr hyn oll a
ddywedaist, a wnaf i ti: canys holl ddinas fy mhobl a ŵyr mai gwraig
rinweddol ydwyt ti.
3:11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all
that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a
virtuous woman.
3:12 Ac yn awr gwir yw fy mod i yn
gyfathrachwr agos: er hynny y mae cyfathrachwr nes na myfi.
3:12 And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit
there is a kinsman nearer than I.
3:13 Aros heno; a’r bore, os efe a wna
ran cyfathrachwr â thi, da; gwnaed ran i cyfathrachwr: ond os efe ni wna ran
cyfathrachwr â thi, yna myfi a wnaf ran cyfathrachwr â thi, fel mai byw yr
ARGLWYDD: cwsg hyd y bore.
3:13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that
if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the
kinsman’s part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will
I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the
morning.
3:14 A hi a orweddodd wrth ei draed ef hyd y bore: a hi a gyfododd cyn yr
adwaenai neb ei gilydd. Ac efe a ddywedodd, Na chaffer gwybod dyfod gwraig i’r
llawr dyrnu.
3:14 And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose
up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman
came into the floor.
3:15 Ac efe a ddywedodd, Moes dy fantell
sydd amdanat, ac ymafael ynddi. A hi a ymaflodd ynddi; ac efe a fesurodd chwe
mesur o haidd, ac a’i gosododd arni: a hi a aeth i’r ddinas.
3:15 Also he said, Bring the veil that thou hast upon thee,
and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid
it on her: and she went into the city.
3:16 A phan ddaeth hi at ei chwegr, hi a ddywedodd,
Pwy ydwyt ti, fy merch? A hi a fynegodd iddi yr hyn oll a wnaethai y gŵr
iddi hi.
3:16 And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who
art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
3:17 A hi a ddywedodd, Y chwe mesur hyn
o haidd a roddodd efe i mi: canys dywedodd wrthyf, Nid ei yn waglaw at dy
chwegr.
3:17 And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me;
for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
3:18 Yna y dywedodd hithau, Aros fy merch, oni
wypech pa fodd y digwyddo y peth hyn: canys ni orffwys y gŵr, nes gorffen
y peth hyn heddiw.
3:18 Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know
how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have
finished the thing this day.
PENNOD 4
4:1 Yna Boas a aeth i fyny i’r porth, ac a
eisteddodd yno. Ac wele y cyfathrachwr yn myned heibio, am yr hwn y dywedasai
Boas. Ac efe a ddywedodd wrtho. Ho, hwn a hwn! tyred yn nes; eistedd yma. Ac
efe a nesaodd, ac a eisteddodd.
4:1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there:
and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho,
such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
4:2 Ac efe a gymerth ddengwr o henuriaid y ddinas,
ac a ddywedodd, Eisteddwch yma. A hwy a eisteddasant.
4:2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said,
Sit ye down here. And they sat down.
4:3 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrth y
cyfathrachwr, Y rhan o’r maes yr hon oedd eiddo ein brawd Elimelech a werth
Naomi, yr hon a ddychwelodd o wlad Moab.
4:3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again
out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother
Elimelech’s:
4:4 A dywedais y mynegwn i ti, gan ddywedyd,
Pryn ef gerbron y trigolion, a cherbron henuriaid fy mhobl. Os rhyddhei,
rhyddha ef; ac oni ryddhei, mynega i mi, fel y gwypwyf: canys nid oes ond ti
i’w ryddhau, a minnau sydd ar dy ôl di. Ac efe a ddywedodd, Myfi a’i rhyddhaf.
4:4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before
the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it,
redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for
there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I
will redeem it.
4:5 Yna y dywedodd Boas, Y diwrnod y
prynych di y maes o law Naomi, ti a’i pryni hefyd gan Ruth y Foabes, gwraig y
marw, i gyfodi enw y marw ar ei etifeddiaeth ef.
4:5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand
of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to
raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
4:6
A’r cyfathrachwr a ddywedodd, Ni allaf ei ryddhau i mi, rhag colli fy
etifeddiaeth fy hun: rhyddha di i ti dy hun fy rhan i; canys ni allaf fi ei
ryddhau.
4:6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself,
lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot
redeem it.
4:7 A hyn oedd ddefod gynt yn Israel,
am ryddhad, ac am gyfnewid, i sicrhau pob peth: Gŵr a ddiosgai ei esgid,
ac a’i rhoddai i’w gymydog: a hyn oedd dystiolaeth yn Israel.
4:7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel
concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man
plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in
Israel.
4:8 Am hynny y dywedodd y cyfathrachwr
wrth Boas, Prŷn i ti dy hun: ac efe a ddiosgodd ei esgid.
4:8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee.
So he drew off his shoe.
4:9 A
dywedodd Boas wrth yr henuriaid, ac wrth yr holl bobl, Tystion ydych chwi
heddiw, i mi brynu yr hyn oll oedd eiddo Elimelech, a’r hyn oll oedd eiddo
Chilion a Mahlon, o law Naomi.
4:9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people,
Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all
that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi.
4:10 Ruth hefyd y Foabes, gwraig Mahlon,
a brynais i mi yn wraig, i gyfodi enw y marw ar ei etifeddiaeth ef, fel na
thorrer ymaith enw y marw o blith ei frodyr, nac oddi wrth borth ei fangre:
tystion ydych chwi heddiw.
4:10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I
purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance,
that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the
gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
4:11 A’r holl bobl y rhai oedd yn y porth, a’r
henuriaid, a ddywedasant, Yr ydym yn dystion: Yr ARGLWYDD a wnelo y wraig sydd
yn dyfod i’th dy di fel Rahel, ac fel Lea, y rhai a adeiladasant ill dwy dy
Israel; a gwna di rymustra yn Effrata, bydd enwog yn Bethlehem:
4:11 And all the people that were in the gate, and the
elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine
house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and
do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:
4:12 Bydded hefyd dy dŷ di fel
tŷ Phares, yr hwn a ymddug Tamar i Jwda, o’r had yr hwn a ddyry yr
ARGLWYDD i ti o’r llances hon.
4:12 And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom
Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young
woman.
4:13 Felly Boas a gymerodd Ruth; a hi a
fu iddo yn wraig: ac efe a aeth i mewn ati hi; a’r ARGLWYDD a roddodd iddi hi
feichiogi, a hi a ymddug fab.
4:13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he
went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.
4:14 A’r gwragedd a ddywedasant wrth Naomi,
Bendigedig fyddo yr ARGLWYDD, yr hwn ni’th adawodd di heb gyfathrachwr heddiw,
fel y gelwid ei enw ef yn Israel.
4:14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD,
which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be
famous in Israel.
4:15 Ac efe fydd i ti yn adferwr einioes,
ac yn ymgeleddwr i’th benwynni: canys dy waudd, yr hon a’th gâr di, a blantodd
iddo ef, a hon sydd well i ti na saith o feibion.
4:15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a
nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which
is better to thee than seven sons, hath borne him.
4:16 A Naomi a gymerth y plentyn, ac a’i
gosododd ef yn ei mynwes, ac a fu famaeth iddo.
4:16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and
became nurse unto it.
4:17 A’i chymdogesau a roddasant iddo
enw, gan ddywedyd, Ganwyd mab i Naomi; ac a alwasant ei enw ef Obed: hwn oedd
dad Jesse, tad Dafydd.
4:17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying,
There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father
of Jesse, the father of David.
4:18 Dyma genedlaethau Phares: Phares a
genhedlodd Hesron,
4:18 Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat
Hezron,
4:l9 A Hesron a genhedlodd Ram, a Ram a genhedlodd
Aminadab,
4:19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,
4:20 Ac Aminadab a genhedlodd Nahson
a Nahson a genhedlodd Salmon,
4:20 And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,
4:21 A Salmon a genhedlodd Boas, a Boas a genhedlodd Obed,
4:21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
4:22 Ac Obed a genhedlodd Jesse, a Jesse
a genhedlodd Dafydd.
4:22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
